Negative Capability
Humans absorb not just touch, sights, sounds, tastes, smells but also energy, impressions, a knowing. We have a conscious and an unconscious intelligence that reacts and lives in concert with all that is. Our intuition speaks to us in ways we may never truly understand but come to deeply know as true. We innately experience and hold duality, mystery, contradiction, paradox, beauty, joy and grief, absence and presence simultaneously. The tension and spaces between them are the seedbed of creativity, of life itself. Longing and satiation, hunger and nourishment exist in the same spaces.
Negative capability is to hold steady in the face of ambiguity, to know opposing truths, to resist explanation and just be. This translates for me into looking not just at what I perceive is in front of me, but what is not there; to explore my ability to stop logical thinking and let myself create whatever emerges intuitively from emptiness, from seemingly vacant spaces.
It is here — in the in-between spaces — I find inspiration, excitement, comfort. Not knowing offers infinite possibilities: anything can be or come into being.
