Artist’s Statement - Negative Capability
Watching a cold January sunset, I found myself looking at the bare trees differently. I could look in between them and their branches and see even the sunset in a new way. The negative space created mesmerizing faceted colors.
Throughout the seasons I found myself noticing the ‘in betweens” - the negative space defining the positive, and a new view of the surrounding beauty. I found myself incorporating this in my gourds this year.
We live in a world that has so much uncertainty and doubt. Maybe just pausing and observing all the beauty that surrounds us and looking at the world in new ways is something we can all do to help create needed change.
